San Diego NIP Chapter Helps Sailors Who Have Been Impacted Financially by COVID-19 Crisis

San Diego NIP Chapter Steps Up to Help Sailors in Need Amid COVID-19 Crisis

The SD Chapter of the Naval Intelligence Professionals (NIP) recently decided to support Naval Intelligence Professionals in their local area who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. They will be providing 15 $100 commissary gift cards to 15 sailors in need.

The San Diego NIP Chapter Board of Directors had already decided to retain some of their annual Golf Outing proceeds to support a charitable cause as a way to give back to their community. After watching the COVID 19 crisis unfold, and knowing that some local sailors will be faced with financial hardship, they decided to do something to help. The Chapter decided to distribute up to 15 X $100 NEX Commissary gift cards to local active duty intelligence professionals who needed help. The Chapter has been coordinating with a some of the active duty ISCMs to advertise the effort, and - not surprisingly - the initiative has been well-received by the active duty ISCMs and waterfront commands.

The program is open to both enlisted and officers, with no pay grade or rank requirement. To ensure neutrality, not Active duty NIP members will be involved in administering the program or selecting the individuals who will receive the gift cards. Grant disbursement will be selected by NIP Board of Directors (non-Active Duty), based on need and availability of grants.
