TAPS: Funeral Scheduled for Stamps Howard

Clare Brooks reports that the funeral for Stamps Howard has been scheduled for 0900 hundred on 10 August, a remarkably swift evolution, given the demands on The Old Guard and the staff at Ft. Myer who so ably support the last event for our veterans at Arlington National Cemetery.

07 July 2017 Captain William Stamps Howard, III, USN (Ret), 81, died peacefully July 7, 2017 after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

 Born April 22, 1936 in San Diego, CA, Stamps spent his childhood in Tarboro, NC and graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1958, following in the footsteps of his distinguished father, William Stamps Howard, JR. Stamps served 30 years in the US Navy. His tours included duty as Assistant Naval Attache' at the US Embassy in Rome, Italy, and service in the Vietnam War as an intelligence specialist. He completed his career at the Pentagon.

Stamps is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Howard; children: Stamps Howard IV (Susan), Carolyn McCombs (Jim), Rick Howard (Beth), and Marypat Marcoccio (Frank); grandchildren: Seamus, Will, Alicia, Scott, Caroline, Allie, Trish, Marypat, Dominick, Erick and Ben.
